Why is the Police Helicopter over my House?
The Force helicopter is always deployed for a very good reason, even when it seems to be flying over your house in the early hours of the morning.
The helicopter and its crew respond to a variety of intelligence-led tasks. These include assisting officers on the ground with searching for suspects and vulnerable missing persons. The aircraft is also used for other tasks such as high visibility patrolling to prevent and detect crime and disorder.
Lancashire Police operate an EC135 type helicopter, one of the quietest helicopters currently available. The pilots are always conscious of the noise and operate at a height given the requirements of the task. They don't stay any longer than they have to, but it's appreciated that the noise generated, may cause you some concern, but please be reassured that the aircraft will always be there for a good reason.
We want you to know what we are doing when the helicopter is deployed and how we are helping to keep you, and your community safe.
This page will be regularly updated with details about main deployments, so that if you are disturbed in the early hours of the morning, a visit here may go someway to explaining why.
Details will be updated as soon as possible on the next working day. On isolated occasions, updates may not be available due to operational demands.
Please note: only brief details of the helicopter's activities will be disclosed and no confidential information will be released on these pages.
