Independent Advisory Group (IAG)

Independent Advisors
An Independent Advisor's role is to act as a 'critical friend' to Lancashire Constabulary. As critical friends, they constructively advise and challenge us on our policies, procedures and practices and advise us accordingly on how to enhance these areas, so policing performance and delivery of our service to local communities is improved.

There are many ways that IAG members have assisted the Constabulary.

Examples of recent involvement include:

  • Consultation on policies and procedures
  • Observation and feedback on training
  • Visits to divisional communications centres
  • Observation of operations
  • Consultation on the effectiveness of initiatives e.g. PACT
  • Implications and community reassurance arising from national and international events

For Lancashire Constabulary to assess the needs of the community, as many diverse views as possible should be heard. We then take these views into consideration in any policing decision. That is why it is important for the Independent Advisory Group wherever possible reflects the makeup of diversity in the division it is representing.

If you require any further information regarding Independent Advisory's Groups, contact the Community Cohesion and Diversity Unit on 01772 412626.
