LGBT
Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender
Lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people enjoy protections in the workplace similar to those provided for women and disabled and ethnic minority employees.
Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations, which became law in 2003, set out how people should behave with regard to sexual orientation issues at work. It makes it unlawful to discriminate in employment or training on grounds of sexual orientation.
It means that employers now risk legal claims from staff who:
- have been treated less favourably than others in, for example, recruitment, promotion or dismissal because they are gay, someone has assumed they are gay or they associate with gay people
- are disadvantaged as a group by workplace practice and policy because of their sexual orientation - for instance, they fail to qualify for certain benefits
- have been offended, either intentionally or unwittingly, by homophobic actions or comments
LGBT and Lancashire Constabulary
Your sexual orientation doesn't affect your ability to work for Lancashire Constabulary and shouldn't be a reason why you would choose not to work or apply for the police.
There is an active LGBT staff network that covers the whole county so support is on hand wherever you are based.
In addition to ensuring our own LGBT staff are supported, the network raises awareness of LGBT issues with other staff as well.
We also have specialist Lesbian and Gay Liaison Officers (LAGLO's) in every divisional area to assist with any incidents that are reported to the police that have a homophobic nature.
