Channel Project
The Channel Project is all about supporting vulnerable individuals. It is a local and community-based initiative between the police, local authority and the local community. The project takes referrals from a number of sources on individuals that may be vulnerable to becoming involved in violent extremism. A joint risk assessment of each individual case is then made by project members and any issues of concern are identified. A programme of intervention tailored to the needs of the individual is then developed and implemented. Involvement of community partners is key. They will have expertise and insight into the process of assessment, referral and intervention. If you would like to know more about this initiative, please contact Sgt Maxine Monks on Tel: 01772 209830 or DI Andy Hulme 01254 353952.

National Muslim Women's Advisory Group
The National Muslim Women's Advisory Group comprises women who are in positions of leadership or are working with the Muslim communities in Britain.
The group is chaired by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Hazel Blears, and advises communities and Local Government on issues around empowering Muslim women through increased participation in civic, economic and social life.
The group acts as an ambassador for Muslim women, representing their views and concerns to Government and providing positive role models. Whilst this is a national initiative, we have two representatives who are based locally in Lancashire.

Voice Pennine Group
The "Voice" Pennine group has brought key people and organisations from East Lancashire together with members of the Muslim Community from across Burnley and Pendle to tackle issues related to extremism and Islamophobia. The forum has provided a detailed insight into the root causes of extremism and the methods used to radicalise Muslims living in the United Kingdom and abroad, and is now turning its attention to young Muslims, challenging them to find the best solutions to the issues of extremism and Islamophobia, in an innovative TV show format. "Voice has demonstrated how members of the Muslim community and key agencies are committed to working together to tackle an issue of mutual concern."

If you need further information on any of the projects, please contact the respective Community Cohesion Departments in the local authorities.
