Underwater Search Unit

The department covers the biggest area of any police diving team in the country and is made up of officers from different forces in the North West. They can be called out to search anywhere between North Wales and the Scottish border.

Each member of the team is a regular police officer so a typical day can start with a search for a murder weapon in a lake and end up with the investigation of a decomposed body in a house.

The divers have to take an intensive 8-week course and are also trained as boat handlers.
