Lancashire Police Authority
The Lancashire Police Authority has the responsibility to "secure the maintenance of an efficient and effective police force for the area".
Police Authorities normally have a membership of 17 people; nine Councillors nominated by the local authorities of the area and eight Independent Members who are directly appointed (at least one of the Independent Members should be a magistrate).
Some of the jobs of a Police Authority include: setting and monitoring the police budget, appointing the Chief Constable and senior officers, consultation with local people about the policing of their area and the setting of local policing priorities and targets for achievement.
