Let’s Celebrate!
This year, Lancashire will play host to a number of exciting events – and join in the celebrations for some big national events too.
Locally, there’s the Open Golf Championships at Lytham and the Preston Guild, whilst nationally, we’ll be cheering our teams on in the European Football Championships and the Olympics. And let’s not forget the Olympic Torch Relay and the Queen’s Jubilee!
This section of the Lancashire Police website is designed to point people in the right direction for further information about each of the events and to provide advice on how to celebrate safely.
Preston Guild
Happening once every twenty years in the city, the Preston Guild is a celebration which consists of festivals, events and performances and has a history stretching back to the 12th century.
The main celebrations will take place over ten days in August and September, but the Guild will be celebrated throughout the summer as part of other events including the Riversway Festival, Caribbean Carnival and Diamond Jubilee.
Residents and participants are reminded of the following safety tips to enjoy the extravaganza:
- When out and about in big crowds be sure to take care of your valuables such as mobile phone and wallet
- Organise your travel plans in advance and check for any changes before leaving to go to events
- When leaving your home ensure your property is locked and secure
- Enjoy alcohol responsibly during the Guild
