Find out what we have been doing in the last month -

The neighbourhood policing teams have recently received comments from members of the public regarding officers using their mobile phones whilst out patrolling, instead of concentrating on speeding cars for example. In order to address this issue the neighbourhood teams would like to explain why they use phones whilst on patrol.

All neighbourhood teams in Lancashire have been issued with PDA’s, these look like telephone but are essentially hand held computers. The officers can use the PDA to carry out their police work without having to spend time at the police station. This is in line with the national policing pledge which expects officers to spend 80% of their time out on their beat, being visible and accessible to the community they serve. PDA’s are an important addition, but by no means distracts the officers from their work or their level of concentration whilst patrolling.

If you would like any further information regarding this issue please contact the Ormskirk neighbourhood office on 01695 566444.

Operation Catchpole - Burglary Operation - A high proportion of officers' patrol time was spent in the target areas of Granville Park & Holt Green. Numerous residents commented positively on the frequency of patrols, both on foot and in marked vehicles. 1 offender arrested who admitted 2 of the recent Granville Park burglaries (and others) on interview. Patrol officers offered reassurance to victims and crime prevention advice to many residents. A Neighbourhood Watch meeting was held with members of the Granville Park scheme.

High Visibility Patrol - Public Open Spaces & Play Areas - These areas were targeted for high visibility patrol activity, particularly during the early evenings. Numerous youths were spoken to and residents/users of the spaces provided information to patrolling officers.

Neighbourhood Watch - Raising the profile of Neighbourhood Watch in the Aughton area. A meeting for all scheme co-ordinators has been arranged and a scheme manager will be appointed from within the Neighbourhood Policing Team to provide improved links between the schemes and local police. A Neighbourhood Watch meeting was held with members of the Granville Park scheme. A newsletter is in preparation and will be distributed to all scheme members in the near future.
