This is an ongoing priority which is being closely monitored and prostitute activity is being disrupted by patrols. A police operation is planned to target kerb crawlers in these areas and to further disrupt activity. Arrests will be made were appropriate. Several arrests have been made including prostitutesand kerb crawlersand a male who was controlling the activities of prostitutes.
This is some of the work carried out by the team over the past few weeks:
Efforts continue to crack down on anti-social behaviour which was taking place around Bar Street and Cobden Street. Strong words of advice have been given to those responsible. Anti social behaviour in these areas continues to be a problem, especially late at night.
Neighbourhood Police Anti-Social Behaviour Patrols continued to pay attention to under-age drinking hotspots during evenings and at weekends. Residents are reporting a significant reduction in incidents of street drinking and the associated rowdy behaviour.
The Bank Hall PACT Panel identified the back street of Williams Road as a current hotspot for youth nuisance which causes concern to local residents. Regular patrols have targeted this area to ensure that anyone loitering in these areas are advised accordingly and moved on. Enquiries are being made with Burnley Borough Council into the possibility of fitting alley gates at this location.
The neighbourhood policing team have conducted several night-time operations to disrupt the activities of prostitutes and kerb crawlers in certain areas of the ward in recent weeks. The operation was a success and resulted in several arrests. This problem was made a PACT priority for August, and the police activity in this respect will continue over the next few months.
Several people in the Lindsay Street area have received warnings from Neighbourhood Police officers regarding their behaviour and activities following complaints from residents. A close eye is being kept on such behaviour. This was made a priority for police by members of the PACT panel for August 2010.
Following information received from members of the community and from observations by local officers, two addresses on Lindsay Street were searched by local officers and a quantity of drugs were seized. Three people were arrested on suspicion of various drug offences.
Individuals causing anti-social behaviour in various locations within the ward area have received frequent visits by police officers, as have those persons believed to be actively committing crime in the area. This targeting of regular offenders is designed to make those people aware that their activities will not be tolerated.
