Highways and helping to make our roads safer outside schools
We did:
The team have been working with the Road Policing Unit to reduce speeding in the area and also with Parkwise to address parents parking on double yellow lines near to school.
As a result:
Speed monitoring has been undertaken and it was found that drivers are doing approx. 30 mph outside school which appears fast, maybe a 20 mph limit would be a safer limit. The new County Councillor, Tim Ashton, will visit during the morning commute/school drop-off time so that he can fully appreciate the current dangers/problems that are experienced by residents on a daily basis. Alongside this, Langdale Road and the junction of Ridge Lane and Bulk Road will also be discussed with possible junction improvement works to increase pedestrian safety.

Canal drinkers
We did:
The Neighbourhood policing team have continued to patrol the areas along the canal throughout the summer. There are still a few areas where canal drinking is apparent and residents in the area are encouraged to ring the Police to report any further incidents.
As a result:
There has been a decrease in the number of street drinking incidents and the Neighbourhood team will continue to patrol this area to continue reassurance in the area. It has been noted that there are various signage along the canal that need improving/repairing. The relevant people will be contacted to improve this.

Activities for all, including allotments
We did:
32 allotments have now been allocated to local residents and there are another 25 interested parties on the waiting list. The Ridge community centre have been allocated a plot and will be working with a number of families and young people in the community to grow basic fruit and veg which will be sold back to the community to raise funds for the centre.
As a result:
The Ridge community centre have been allocated a plot and will be working with a number of families and young people in the community to grow basic fruit and veg which will be sold back to the community to raise funds for the community centre. Alongside this, there will be outreach projects running at Central Lancaster High School and Ridge Primary.

Other news:
The Community Flat will now be shared with Places for People.

Street Pride will take place on:
25 October Coniston Road
22 November Grasmere Road
This will involve Police working with the local Council to improve the look of the Ward.

A large project is coming up for the canal and viaduct run via British waterways with funding, hopefully, from British Waterways. Some great ideas have been put forward for the project. There is also a 'ward clean up' regarding the clean up of Ridge Woods area in association with the community payback scheme

Community Champions - this is an initiative being run by Places for People which will be rolled out in the local primary schools. This will involve a set of lesson plans which endeavour to install a sense of community values in young people. The local Neighbourhood Policing team will be attending the meeting at Ridge Primary in early september.

Paul Hunter Foundation Snooker - the snooker activity has taken a break for summer and will restart on Monday 13th September 2010. The re-launch evening will be widely publicised throughout the local community. More volunteers and training are required to ensure the activities continued success. If anybody has an interest in volunteering please contact PCSO Michelle Mackay at Lancaster Police Station or Sean at Ridge community centre.

A recent operation 'Rogue Trader' ran with Trading Standards advising people of 'Cowboy Builders' in the area. A letter drop will be done to elderly residents in the area regarding this.
