Make the right call

Christmas is a high demand period for all the emergency services. Some calls, especially to 999 or 101, could be dealt with better and sometimes quicker elsewhere.

Of the 17,000 calls we get per week, around 20% are from people needing help to deal with personal and social issues and quite often other agencies are better equipped to deal with that and give people the help they need before they reach crisis point.

We want people to be armed with the right information so when they need help the can make the right call. Here are some of the most common reasons you may need help and support over Christmas and where to go to get it.

  • If crime is taking place or there is risk to life - Always call 999 in an emergency
  • To report a crime that has already happened - Ring 101 or report online
  • You have been a victim of fraud (including online fraud) - Report online to Action Fraud or ring 0300 123 2040
  • To report fake goods - Call Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline 03454 04 05 06
  • To report animal cruelty to the RSPCA -
  • You are feeling low and need someone to talk to contact the Samaritans - 116 123
  • Help and support for young victims contact Nest Lancashire - 0300 111 0323
  • If you or someone you know are a victim of domestic abuse call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline 0808 2000 247
  • To report noise nuisance contact your local council
