THE FRONT counter at the new West Division Police Headquarters in Blackpool has now opened its doors to the public.
The facility, located on Gerry Richardson Way off Clifton Road, is open between the hours of 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and 9am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday from Monday 23 July.
The state-of-the-art building was completed in June with staff moving over from Bonny Street Police Station on a phased basis.
Front counters mainly provide a service for people to answer their bail conditions, sex offender registrations, immigration checks, handing over or collecting property and presenting car insurance as well as ‘meet and greet’ for visitors such as legal representatives.
As well as a front counter, the building provides a base for some of the local policing and immediate response teams, an investigations hub and 42 custody cells. It also houses a range of specialist teams serving the whole of the division, which covers Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre, Lancaster and Morecambe.
Building started on the site of the new headquarters in December 2016. The investment, which is the biggest in the force’s history, was funded as part of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s (PCC’s) capital programme.
The front counter at Bonny Street Police Station will remain open, but with difference operating hours of 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and 9am-6pm on Saturday and closed on a Sunday, until the new front counter opens at the Municipal Buildings, when it will relocate along with the town centre policing team.
What facilities will be based at the new headquarters?
The new building, close to the M55, will accommodate staff who are currently based at Bonny Street. It will provide a base for local neighbourhood policing and immediate response teams, as well as a public enquiry desk, investigations hub and 42 custody cells. It will also include a range of specialist teams serving the whole of the Fylde coast as well as Lancaster and Morecambe.
Why do we need a new headquarters?
Bonny Street Police Station is simply no longer fit for purpose. It is out-of-date and does not meet modern policing requirements.
It will see a massive improvement to the working environment for our officers and staff and it will ultimately allow us to provide a better quality of service to the public.
Will the move impact on policing in the town centre
We will retain a visible town centre presence at Blackpool Council's Municipal Buildings, which will include a public enquiry desk and space for the local policing team working in the area
