Serious collison in Blackburn

POLICE are appealing for information after a serious collision in Blackburn.

At about 11.45pm yesterday (Friday, November 3rd) a blue Audi A3 was seen by a police patrol on Whalley New Road and made off from officers. A short time later the Audi was seen by a second police patrol driving at speed and again made off. There was no pursuit.

A short time later the Audi was found by officers having crashed into a stone wall on Lammock Road.

The vehicle had caught fire and officers pulled one man from the car before it fully ignited. The man, a 22 year old from Blackburn, was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital with a broken ankle. A second man, an 18 year old, later presented at hospital with a broken jaw.

The incident will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as a matter of course.

Sgt Olly Jones, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a serious collision and I would appeal to anyone who saw either the crash itself or the Audi driving in the moments before to contact us.â€
