A MAN has been arrested after a collision in Accrington left a woman with serious injuries.
The 38-year-old man was arrested at an address in Accrington in the early hours of this morning (Monday, March 18th) on suspicion of drink driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He is currently in custody.
Police were called shortly before midnight yesterday to reports a female pedestrian had been hit by a car as she climbed out of a taxi on Burnley Road, close to the Spar.
The car made off from the scene.
A Peugeot 307 was later recovered and will be forensically examined.
The woman, 31 and from Accrington, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with head injuries. She remains in a serious condition
The road was closed for around five hours.
Sgt Andy Ainsworth, of the Lancashire Police Tac Ops Unit, said: “This collision left a woman with some very serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who saw the collision itself or who may have dashcam footage to contact us as soon as possible.”
