Prison absconder arrested

POLICE have this afternoon arrested prison absconder Hughie Scanlon.

Scanlon absconded from HMP Kirkham on Thursday (September 26) and police have been searching for him since then.

Scanlon, 64, who was jailed for life at the Old Bailey in March 1997 for manslaughter, was arrested today (Sunday, September 29th) at an address in Blackpool.

He has now been charged with absconding from lawful custody and is due to appear before magistrates this morning.

Police would like to thank all those who have helped with our appeals to trace Scanlon. Your help and support is always appreciated and is invaluable in our efforts to keep our communities safe.
