NightSafe is a countywide campaign based on what we do to make Lancashire safe at night.
This includes everything from preventing predatory sexual behaviour and violent crime to working with licensees to put proper safeguarding in place.
We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy a safe night out with friends or family.
Every day, our police officers undertake a range of tactics to deter and catch offenders. The topics on this page are just some of the ways we work hard to keep you safe at night.
Many areas of Lancashire enjoy a night-time economy. This is not just limited to pubs, bars, and restaurants but also takeaways, taxi ranks and public transport hubs.
These diverse businesses help you to have a great night out but can also unfortunately attract certain types of crime. Lancashire Police work tirelessly to catch these offenders and charge them – where possible – with the crimes they commit.
We are reintroducing NightSafe as a campaign that covers all this police work.
Project Vigilant is a new national initiative aimed at stopping predatory sexual behaviour in the night-time economy. As part of our focus on reducing violence against women and girls, Project Vigilant includes training officers to help them detect and intercept predators more effectively.
Once trained, plain-clothed officers are deployed into the night-time economy to identify predatory sexual behaviour. Uniformed officers intervene to prevent this behaviour escalating into an offence.
By patrolling hotspot areas and using their surveillance skills, plain clothes officers will work to identify predatory behaviour that targets vulnerable people, including women and girls.
Violent crime is completely unacceptable, regardless of whether it causes injury to victims.
We deploy a range of tactics to deter violent crime. These include working with venues to improve their layouts, training event staff on what warning signs to look out for and ensuring our response teams are always ready to attend.
You may notice heightened police presence during events or on particularly busy nights.
Licensing plays a key part in making our night-time economy safer for everyone. We work closely with licensees to build good working relationships. This makes it easier for licensees to know what safeguarding and security planning is required of them. It also gives licensees an avenue to report instances to our officers.
We want everyone to know that help is available, regardless of how long ago an incident occurred or what happened.
Victim Care Lancashire offers free and confidential support. You can report crime 100% anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
